Ear Wax Removal
Effective and safe methods of removing ear wax.
Using Microsuction and Irrigation, we can safely remove stubborn ear wax to unblock your ears and help you hear properly again.
Our Services
Older methods of ear wax removal have been deemed unsafe.
The newer methods include Microsuction and Irrigation - sometimes using a combination of the two methods, to ensure that ears are cleared of stubborn wax build up.
These methods are deemed much safer and effective.
-
Initial ear checks are performed to view the inside of the ear. This will be performed using an Otoscope to view the ear drum and see if any wax is blocking it. We can also see if there are signs of infection.
At this time, we can show you the current state of the ear using our camera scope - we love comparing the before and after photos!
-
Microsuction consists of a small tube which ‘vacuums’ out the ear wax. The practitioner will gently suction out any wax.
This machine can be noisy but it works really well!
-
Irrigation is a method of wax removal using a small jet of water to dislodge the blockage. The practitioner can start and stop as needed. Warm water is used and vey basic aftercare will be required. Ear plugs will be provided to help keep the ears dry for the following few days (for use when showering /bathing/swimming only).
-
Please use Olive Oil ear drops or EAROL (available from most pharmacies) for approximately 3-5 days BEFORE coming to your appointment.
This will make the procedure more comfortable, effective and efficient for you.
A disclaimer form is required before every procedure to ensure your safety and adhere to our professional standards.
We aim to ensure your comfort - we can start and stop whenever needed. The procedure should not be painful, especially if the ear drops are used before you attend.
Our pop-up clinics will be arranged in line with local demand - Covering the Magor, Undy, Rogiet, Caldicot areas and further afield. Home visits may be a possibility for an additional cost. Costs of the procedure are competitive with other providers and are monitored regularly. This includes the initial ear check and consultation, plus examination and treatment.
In-clinic appointments will cost £65 for one or both ears to be checked and cleaned.
Home visits will cost £70 for one or both ears to be checked and cleaned, within a 10 mile radius.
If it is found during the examination that no treatment is required, only the consultation and examination fee of £25 is payable. The whole ear wax removal procedure usually takes approximately 45 minutes, although times may vary depending on the ear wax - a follow up appointment may be required if we are unable to remove the wax successfully in the initial session. This is rare but can happen. If a second treatment session is required, the consultation fee will be payable for this second session.
Half or whole days sessions can also be arranged for workplaces. Many people use headsets or ear plugs for work - this can cause excessive wax build up, general discomfort and risk of infections.
Care Homes - We can come to you and see multiple residents if needed! Full DBS and Insurance in place.
